Meet Katie Grube, a senior Mu from Dinwiddie, Virginia who does it all. Katie is our former philanthropy chair and has a contagious passion for all things St. Jude. She has done so much for our chapter and has no plans on slowing down. Now, she is representing the fashion-forward clothing line Emma Graham as a Design Consultant and serving as the first president of G.A.M.M.A. at JMU. Hear more about what she does from Katie herself.
This fall, I am James Madison University’s Emma Graham Design Consultant. In this program, myself and other stylish college women across the country host trunk shows of the must-have items from formal dress to daytime wear. I love doing this because the brand has such a unique history and is really different from anything else out there. Plus this isn’t your typical kind of internship program! I get to work directly with the Director of Sales, as well as have real conversations with owners and Designers, Jackie Graham and Emma Mahon themselves.
This coming weekend, I am hosting another trunk show and would love to have ladies stop by! A lot of exclusive JMU designs as well as limited edition items will be featured in this show and you can buy items and take them home with you that day. Visit our event page on Facebook to learn more!
Within the JMU community, I am President of G.A.M.M.A., Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol. This is a fairly new organization to the JMU community but is off to a great start. Recently, we extended membership to members of ICGC, Panhellenic, and Interfraternity Councils, making us the only organization at JMU that encompasses all students that identify as members of social Greek organizations. Here’s more about the organization!
G.A.M.M.A. is an organization for fraternity and sorority members who are interested in educating their Greek peers about mature management of alcohol. G.A.M.M.A. members lead the way in educating others about high-risk, alcohol-related behaviors that cause harm to individuals and/or their chapters. It is G.A.M.M.A.’s mission is to promote inter-Greek collaboration regarding the mature management of alcohol. In order to fulfill this mission, G.A.M.M.A. holds educational and social events pertaining to alcohol use. Membership is open to members of all sororities and fraternities on campus. G.A.M.M.A.’s peer educators also act as peer helpers, and can support you in getting a member the help that he or she needs if alcohol problems are interfering with their life.
Katie does so much for this new organization that she even received a Dolley Award this past April. This is the most prestigious award show put on by JMU’s Student Activities and Involvement Office and was recognized for the “Coca Cola Scholarship Award for Substance Abuse Awareness.”
To learn more about how you can get involved with G.A.M.M.A., visit their website and see Katie in action at their weekly meetings.
Katie inspires us by always wanting to give back in any way she can. She puts 100% in everything she does, while always having a smile on her face. She is a woman who exhibits a strong and womanly character, which is something we strive for everyday. Thanks for all you do Katie, and everyone be sure to check out the Emma Graham trunk show this Friday.
